Job Title: Assistant Facility Security Officer (“AFSO”)

 

Position Summary

 

This role supports SES Space & Defense, Inc.’s (“SESSD”) compliance with security requirements related to the National Industrial Security Operating Manual (“NISPOM”), various Director of Central Intelligence Directives (“DCID”), and guidelines issued by other government agencies in connection with the company’s personnel, facilities, operations, and communications security activities. This role assists in meeting the Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency’s (“DCSA”) guidelines for NISP members.

In conjunction with the Facility Security Officer (“FSO”), you will ensure compliance with the company’s security policies and procedures designed to enforce applicable laws, government regulations, and customer requirements. You will engage with employees and contractors to support clearance maintenance activities, classified meeting coordination, foreign travel and contact documentation, annual training, and affiliate visit requests.  You will assist with perimeter security activities at multiple safeguarding locations, inclusive of managing access control systems and assisting with physical inspections.

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Acts as the AFSO for SESSD, providing redundancy of security operations within all company facilities
  • Provides onsite support of day-to-day security activities at the company’s backup Global Network Operations Security Center (“GNOSC”), located in Stafford, VA
  • Performs security functions within several security systems of record provisioned for members of the NISP, including Defense Information System for Security (“DISS”), National Background Investigation System (“NBIS”), and National Industrial Security System (“NISS”)
  • Assists in the administrative tasks within the Access Control System (“ACS”) for multiple locations, including provision and removal of access to company spaces, issuing badges as part of the onboarding process for authorized staff, and running access history reports to support compliance needs for the security team.
  • Coordinates classified meetings, inclusive of sending and receiving Visit Authorization Requests and working with meeting hosts, as necessary, to sanitize classified meeting spaces in preparation for cleared visitor(s)
  • Aid in response to alarm conditions and/or execution of emergency action plans to ensure safeguarding capabilities are not jeopardized during these events.
  • Conduct briefings and debriefings in support of classified program operations
  • Work with the Human Resources team to design, deploy, and track the completion of annual training required for employees of the company, inclusive of training requirements specific to the support of certain programs.
  • Act as the Insider Threat Program’s onsite security representative for the Stafford, VA location
  • Assist in gathering information for investigations into losses and security violations
  • Ensure destruction of classified and/or other sensitive information types in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Assist in revision of procedures manuals and may interface with outside agencies
  • Acts as the company’s COMSEC custodian, ensuring regular audits and semi-annual inventories are performed, maintaining the Distributed Information Security Accounting Systems (“DIAS”) database
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industrial or physical security training (experience will be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Must have expertise at using NBIS, DISS, and NISS to support personnel and facility security clearances.
  • Possess an active security clearance of Secret
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a clearance at the level of TS/SCI
  • Working knowledge of DoD, DoE or other industrial security programs is required
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with peers and other functions
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
  • Must be able to interpret current government regulations and procedures
  • Must have the ability to work well with customers, peers, and management
  • Must have good time management skills
  • Must have excellent experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint

 

Desirable Qualifications

 

  • An active security clearance at the Top Secret level
  • Experience in establishing comprehensive workflow diagrams
  • Experience in automation of security tasks using industry standard utilities
