SES Space & Defense is seeking a Junior Systems Engineer to support to support the design, integration, and lifecycle management of complex satellite communication and defense systems using Model Based Systems Engineering. The candidate will help build and mature the organization’s MBSE capability by integrating digital engineering tools and processes to strengthen requirements traceability, system architecture development, and verification and validation (V&V) activities across programs.
This position is ideal for a systems engineer eager to take a hands-on role in developing digital models, defining system architectures, and applying MBSE to improve engineering collaboration and mission assurance. You will collaborate with a large cross-functional team, and primary responsibilities include building system models, documenting system requirements, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), and system design and architecture documents. Following the design phase, you will define service thresholds, write test plans, and ensure the solutions meet performance and reliability standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain SysML-based system architecture models using Codebeamer or Capella
- Support requirements management: define, decompose, and maintain traceability between system requirements, model elements, and test artifacts.
- Contribute to the development of Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and use case documentation that capture mission scenarios and stakeholder needs.
- Assist in verification and validation (V&V) planning by linking requirements and system behaviors to test cases and performance metrics.
- Collaborate with systems, software, and test teams to ensure alignment between models, specifications, and system performance objectives.
- Support the standardization and adoption of MBSE processes and tools across SES Space & Defense programs/projects.
- Generate engineering documentation, reports, and model-based visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- BSEE in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
- Novice technical expertise
- Ability to effectively write, communicate and develop technical white papers, presentations, etc.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Exhibit a mindset that is humble, hungry, and smart
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies
- Familiarity with MBSE tools: Cameo, Magicdraw, Capella, Codebeamer
- Familiarity with requirements management (e.g., Excel-based tracking)
- Understanding of systems engineering processes, including requirements analysis, architecture definition, and verification/validation.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills, particularly in developing CONOPS, system documentation, and reports
