Satellite Operations Technician, Tier 3

Position Summary

The SATOPS Tier 3 technician provides support to the USSOCOM J6 for the tracking, troubleshooting, and coordination for all things satellite communications (SATCOM) systems related to the environment, topology, and architecture of tactical systems supporting deployed users. Your main job duties involve the operation of mission-critical management tools that require expertise beyond a Tier 1 and 2 Technician’s level of knowledge and skill. You will be required to have a thorough understanding of the SDN transport topology, asset and resource management, employed technologies, operating procedures, and policies.  You will take part in mission planning, conferences, and document writing involving SATCOM systems as required by the Customer

 

Primary & Essential Accountabilities

  • Kratos SatMonics Spectrum Management Platform Installation and Administration
  • Database configurations of SatMonics
  • Calibration and auditing of SatMonics database as required
  • Troubleshooting SatMonics issues
  • Manage site antenna and equipment at one site
  • Travel to one overseas site quarterly
  • Perform network analysis to record network health
  • Build network topology maps within Solarwinds
  • Contribute to operational planning and improvement by developing new policies and procedures
  • Keep Site Lead informed on operational issues, troubleshooting efforts, and solutions
  • Work with planners and Tier 3 technicians on Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI) coordination and execution, network investigations, network changes, reports, etc.
  • Assist iDirect Tier 3 SMEs in test and evaluation of systems and network configurations
  • Assist iDirect Tier 3 SMEs in VSAT terminal characterization
  • Assist iDirect Tier 3 SMEs in engineering support
  • Assist iDirect Tier 3 SMEs daily operational support of iDirect Technologies hubs and remote systems as necessary
  • Participate in the research, evaluation and selection of new SATCOM management technologies.
  • Prepare reports documenting utilization levels, failure rates or other statistical reports as directed.
  • Analyze complex communication systems, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges and other devices
  • Resolve difficult interoperability problems to obtain operation across all platforms including e-mail, files transfer, multimedia, teleconferencing and the like
  • Configure systems to user environments
  • Support acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services
  • May act as a technical project leader or provide work leadership for lower level employees
  • May provide written technical descriptions and contribute in the development of technical solutions in support of proposal efforts
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

 

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Common knowledge of the SATCOM Special Operations Forces Tactical Assured Connectivity System (SOFTACS), and Product Distribution System (PDS) family of terminals (FoT)
  • Candidate must have a Top Secret (TS) Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Must have 8750 IAT II certification or obtain within 3 months after beginning work in the position
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively in a team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrate a committment to the process of continuous improvement by identifying and responding actively
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
